Which test prep company is best for MCAT prep in Richmond,VA?

Filed under Misc | 2 Comments

I’m taking the May 2010 MCAT and my options in Richmond are The Princeton Review, Kaplan and Examcrackers. I was wondering if anyone has taken one of these courses and can give a review or suggestion.

I’m taking Kaplan right now, I’m taking the MCATS in January.. I’ve had alot of people recommend it to me, who have taken the MCATS, and so far it’s covering everything I believe and have been told would be essential. I haven’t taken the MCATS yet, but I am satisfied with the program so far. Hope this helps!

Well at the start I would only suggest a review course if you can’t force yourself to examine certain hours a day. A review course basically keeps you on track but in the end it is your own private responsibility to examine and read the material they assign you. And also to do the test material and passages that are provided online. Most of it is required but an instructor doesn’t scold you if you aren’t keeping up with assignments.

I also would make sure that the semester in which you are studying doesn’t include extremely hard and time consuming classes. Also you might also consider a less demanding work schedule.

Studying for the MCAT is serious, you want to use all available time sensibly and taking the course itself isn’t a miracle worker.

All of that said I reckon you should question people who have taken those classes within your area. Kaplan is a excellent program. It increased my score from 28 to 36 when I took it during the summer. But if the people Kaplan use in your area are not splendid than obviously you won’t have excellent teachers.

So while Kaplan has a excellent reputation in my area, it depends on how willing your teachers are to help you and how excellent of a teacher they are.

Kaplan does say that they use instructors who score in the 90th percentile in all areas. But just because they scored well doesn’t mean they know all the science as well because the MCAT test itself covers only a small part of the material they question you to know.

Kaplan has a high score guarantee. They base it off the at the start diagnostic test you take (or a previous test). If you want your cash’s value than try and examine for the MCAT before taking the class. For example, if you start the class in January use December to review some of the material in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

If you score a 22 on the Diagnostic, than the high score guarantee is a joke. But if you score a 27-30 than if you don’t do as well on the actual test you will get your cash back. (This is worst case scenario) But if you take a review course with a high score guarantee try and prepare for the test going into the class.

ExamKrackers has really excellent books. So their review might be excellent too. But ExamKrackers isn’t located in my area.

I honestly don’t want to say take Kaplan b/c my score increased. But you should question a premedical advisor at your Academe. They usually know the best prep in that area. They might even try and dissaude you from costs the cash. But I honestly wish I had taken the Prep class the at the start time I took the MCAT because I’m not very excellent at keeping pace with a examine plot. In fact the at the start time I didn’t take enough practice tests so going into the test I wasn’t conditioned for the speed of the test.

Kaplan will require you to take 10-11 full length tests 5+ hours each. By the end of the course which generally lasts from three- five months depending on the schedule. I would recommend a five month schedule because the pace isn’t as quick. And it will give you more time to absorb all the science you need.

Of course if you don’t do all the required work, the high score guarantee will be nullified. All that information is kept track of online.

At the end of the day, take the course which is about 1700 dollars or so in fee (1800 maybe) if you know you won’t be able to examine by yourself. You’ll probably meet some people who will want to form examine groups which is a excellent thought. Teaching someone the material helps gain encounter.

Honestly while taking the class I helped a bunch of people with their homework on this website and that really helped me better remember all the science.
