Is it true that the University of Ottawa is a good school for English programs?

Filed under University of ottawa | 2 Comments

I am trying to make a choice of where to apply to for university
i want to do just general arts and sciences for first year, just because i only THINK i want to go into english (and i also don’t know what i want to do with it..) so i can explore more options aswell.
So is the University of Ottawa a excellent school for its english programs? If there is a better one in Ontario, which would you recomend?
Distance is not a problem, as long as it is in ontario i am pleased.
Thank you!! and wish me luck! life is so hard!

Yeah UO! The problem I find with UO is it’s not really known for anything… It is very research intensive and was formerly a liberal arts college which is probably why the social sciences is the largest faculty along with the arts.

I like that the university is located right downtown. The OCTranspo (bus logic) is incredible and connects the campus to just about anything. While I no longer live on campus, I’m walking distance away.

If you are thinking of a general arts/ science I would apply to the science faculty and do general science. Because, if you do end up with a general arts degree, they are practially useless (running joke of Frosh Week 07 was that an art degree certified you to work at McDonalds…)

GOOD LUCK with everything, University life is a huge change from High School. Make sure you’re applying to something and everyplace that you’ll delight in. (AKA don’t do political science, if you don’t like to read and enter) Also make sure to do campus tours. I chose UO because of the bilingualism but I also chose not to accept offer from other schools because I disliked their campus.

Don’t quote me on this, but for a degree in English I really don’t reckon it matters where you go.

English, and the Humanities in general, are largely useless. Not completely, and English is probably one of the better ones, but yeah.
