University of Ottawa or Carleton University?

Filed under University of ottawa education | 1 Comment)

I’m looking at applying to one of the these two universities, but can’t choose which is better. I am considering an engineering or other science-related major and possibly doing a business minor.

Things that are vital to me are education quality, the campus (facilities, safety, etc.) and an overall friendly ambiance. I’m not plotting on living in residence, so opportunities to meet others in clubs would certainly be a plus.

I’d like to hear some opinions on the two universities, any help is greatly appreciated!

Well this is right up my alley because I’m currently a student at the University of Ottawa! I’m glad you’re considering Ottawa and Carleton. We don’t get as much concentration as, say, Toronto, but we’re pretty excellent too!
Ottawa is better for the sciences and business. Don’t quote me on it, but I reckon that Carleton might be better for engineering.
If I were to compare the two campuses, I’d associate them to U of T and York (Ottawa’s = Toronto’s while Carleton’s = York’s). Carleton’s campus has more greenspace and its quite wonderful. Ottawa’s campus is mostly concrete. But, Ottawa is located right downtown, so its a excellent trade-off for many students. Also, Carleton’s campus can be quite lonely and its best not to go out alone too late.
Both have really friendly students, so they tie in that respect.
Hope I’ve helped! You can send me a message if you want to question me anything else!
