I am a teenager ahead of his class looking for a tutoring job in elementary through 7th or 8th grade math. I was wondering how much I should charge, keeping in mind that I don’t have any references except some volunteer tutoring work in a special-help middle school class.

I reckon $10-15 is pretty honest for about an hour of tutoring. Most friends I know make about $20/hour and they’re experienced. If you’re not sure how much, try to advertise yourself as flexible with payment and negotiate pay with your client. Even if it isn’t a lot of money, you can get raises and when you stop tutoring that kid, and you were a excellent tutor, you have a reference to turn to!
Sufficient to get as much money as you reckon is honest.
